The 3rd international conference on AIML Systems, organised by Comsnets and held last week in Bengaluru, featured keynote talks by some of the world’s leading AI/ML researchers, and technical paper presentations and tech demos across both industry and research tracks.
The conference, which was inaugurated by Dr. K. VijayRaghavan, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, aimed to examine how immense strides in AI/ML techniques are made possible through advances in the computational systems and how the use of AI/ML can help in the data-driven explorations of the design space of the computational systems.
The keynote speakers included Christopher Matthew De Sa from Cornell University, USA, who spoke about the challenges and opportunities of building systems for machine learning; Milind Tambe from Google Research and Harvard University, USA, who spoke about the applications of AI for social good; Svetha Venkatesh from Deakin University, Australia, who spoke about the advances in computer vision and deep learning; and Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay from Indian Statistical Institute, India, who spoke about the role of evolutionary algorithms in AI/ML.
The conference also featured a banquet talk by Sridhar Vembu, the founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation, who shared his insights on building a global software company from India.
The technical program consisted of 35 papers across research and industry tracks, covering topics such as natural language processing, computer vision, reinforcement learning, federated learning, edge computing, cloud computing, blockchain, and IoT. The papers were selected from over 100 submissions from 15 countries.
The conference also hosted two workshops: GENAI (Gender Equality in AI) and SAI4E (Sustainable AI for Environment), which focused on the social and environmental aspects of AI/ML. The workshops included panel discussions, invited talks, and paper presentations by experts from academia and industry.
The conference also showcased 15 demos and exhibits by startups, companies, and research labs that demonstrated the state-of-the-art AI/ML systems and solutions for various domains such as healthcare, education, agriculture, entertainment, and security.
The conference concluded with a special session on India-AI, which highlighted the initiatives and achievements of various stakeholders in the Indian AI ecosystem, such as government agencies, industry associations, academic institutions, and social enterprises . The session also discussed the opportunities and challenges for India to become a global leader in AI/ML.
The conference was supported by several sponsors and partners, including Microsoft Research India, IBM Research India, Google Research India, Amazon Web Services India, NVIDIA India, Intel India, Wipro Limited India, MeitY Startup Hub India (MSH), NASSCOM CoE IoT & AI Bengaluru (NASSCOM), IEEE Computer Society Bangalore Chapter (IEEE), ACM Bangalore Chapter (ACM), Springer Nature (Publications Partner), Zoho Corporation (Technology Partner), and ACM-Women India (Travel Grants Partner).
The conference was attended by over 500 participants from 20 countries. The conference proceedings will be published by Springer in their Communications in Computer and Information Science series. The conference videos will be available on the conference website soon.
