AMD to Acquire ZT Systems for $4.9 Billion to Enhance AI Ecosystem

AMD has announced its plan to acquire ZT Systems, a leading provider of compute design and infrastructure solutions, for $4.9 billion. The acquisition, which will be executed through a combination of cash and stock, also includes a contingent payment of up to $400 million based on performance metrics. Dr. Lisa Su, AMD’s chair and CEO, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition in a statement. “Our acquisition of ZT Systems is the next major step in our long-term AI strategy to deliver leadership training and inferencing solutions that can be rapidly deployed at scale across cloud and enterprise customers,” said Su. She highlighted that ZT Systems’ world-class systems design and rack-scale solutions expertise would significantly enhance AMD’s data center AI systems and customer enablement capabilities.

Strengthening the AI Ecosystem

The acquisition aligns with AMD’s broader strategy of investing in its AI ecosystem, having already invested approximately $1 billion to build its capabilities in this area. By combining ZT Systems’ industry-leading data center systems expertise with AMD’s high-performance Instinct AI accelerator, EPYC CPU, and networking product portfolios, AMD aims to deliver end-to-end data center AI infrastructure at scale.
