Adobe, the software giant behind Photoshop and other popular creative tools, has given a sneak peek of its upcoming AI-powered photo editing tool called Project Stardust. The company claims that the new tool will bring a “revolutionary” change to how people use Adobe products.
Project Stardust is a web-based tool that uses AI to automatically select, move, delete, or alter objects in photos, without requiring manual separation or masking. The tool can also fill in the missing background when objects are removed or moved, and generate new objects based on text prompts.
For example, a user can type “add a dog” and the tool will create a realistic-looking dog in the photo. Or, a user can type “remove the person” and the tool will erase the person and fill in the background seamlessly.
Adobe said that these features are just “a fraction” of what Project Stardust can do, and that more details will be revealed at the Adobe Max event on Oct. 10. The company said that Project Stardust is based on OpenAI technology, such as GPT-3 and Codex, which are powerful AI systems that can generate text and code.
Adobe said that Project Stardust is part of its vision to make its products more accessible and intuitive for everyone, regardless of their skill level or device. The company said that Project Stardust will work seamlessly with other Adobe products, such as Photoshop and Lightroom.
Project Stardust is not the first AI photo editing tool in the market. Other companies, such as Canva, Google, and Meta (formerly Facebook), have also launched their own AI features for creative purposes. However, Adobe said that Project Stardust is different from other tools because it offers more control and flexibility to the users.
Project Stardust is expected to be available for beta testing soon, and Adobe said that it welcomes feedback from users to improve the tool. The company said that Project Stardust is a “game-changer” for photo editing and that it hopes to inspire more creativity and innovation among its users.
